Since I was a little girl, learning from my grandmothers, I have had a love of and a fascination with threads, fabric and color. Hand weaving caught my interest early during visits to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, which are home to most of my family heritage.
My work incorporates many materials: yarn, thread, fabric, beads, paper, and utilizes many processes: weaving, sewing, surface design, dyeing, and fabricating books. To me, all these materials and processes are interconnected and build upon each other.
Fabric and stitching are often viewed as the realm of woman. In addition to my simple passion for the medium, I use these materials and processes to express the importance of the daily, visible and invisible connections between all human beings, and to honor the feminine.
